Overwatch player creates incredible UNO Workshop mode
An Overwatch player has managed to recreate the card game UNO with the new Workshop feature.

During its time in testing on the Public Test Realm (PTR), the Workshop was used to create a huge variety of amazing game modes, and now they’re available to all Overwatch players.
The versatility offered by the Workshop means that new modes can include things that would never have been possible with the standard custom game creator, and don’t even need to follow the fundamental rules of Overwatch.
One fan, u/ochotonida, has taken full advantage of this capability to recreate modes that are as far removed from the class-based first-person shooter as can be, producing classic arcade modes like Pong and Snake, and now taking inspiration from outside of video games altogether to produce a version of UNO.

UNO is a card game in which the goal is to get rid of all the cards in your hand. Each player starts with seven cards, and on each turn must either play a card matching either the number or color of the top card on the discard pile, or draw a new card from the deck.
The Workshop is finally available on the live Overwatch servers.Cards come in four colored sets with numbers one to nine, as well as “action cards” that cause the next player to be skipped, have to pick up two cards, or reverse the order of play, and “Wild” cards that allow the player to declare the color to be matched.

In u/ochotonida’s Overwatch version, players stand around a central circle that acts as the “table” on which the game is played. The circle in the middle shows the number and color of the card at the top of the discard pile, and another beam highlights which player currently has their turn.
The latest version of the mode has been updated with a variety of effects and other conveniences to improve gameplay. Aiming at another player shows how many cards they have left, and a player with just a single card becomes engulfed in flames. Players who are skipped, meanwhile, become frozen.
The mode also supports a variety of different locations on different maps, so players can choose their preferred scenery for their game. The mode supports up to twelve players.
Controls:
- [primary fire] and [secondary fire] are used to change your currently selected card
- [jump] is used to play your currently selected card when it is your turn
- [crouch] is used to pass your turn to the next player without playing a card, taking a card (or multiple when a +2/+4) has been played
- [ability 2] is used to cycle the color of white cards (+4 and “pick” cards).
