Apex Legends is a free to play Battle Royale game from Respawn, and Respawn has added a variety of optional customization content to monetize the game. One of the biggest additions is Apex Packs, a supply drop system for Apex Legends.
Many fans were wary of Respawn’s decision to have supply drops in this title as EA has a bad reputation with their abuse of supply drops, as seen in Star Wars Battlefront II’s fiasco in 2017. In a new FAQ from Respawn, the details on how the Apex Pack system works has been confirmed — and it has an unexpected level of transparency.

All Apex Packs only feature cosmetic items, and Respawn has made clear in their interviews that they will never allow gameplay advantageous to be sold in Apex Legends. Apex Packs can be earned in two ways: by playing the game and leveling up, and by purchasing them with the in-game currency called Apex Legends Coins.
For the sake of transparency, Respawn has provided the expected drop rates for the rarity types on a single Apex Packs. The probability of earning at least one of the following is:
- Rare or better item: 100%
- Epic or better item: 24.8%
- Legendary item: 7.4%

Alongside the probability, the FAQ page also showcases a list of which types of content is available at what rarity.
Items are available in-game at the following raritiesIn-game, players can find the Apex Packs under the Store Tab and under ‘Apex Packs.’ 1 Apex Pack costs 100 Coins, and there’s a bundle of 10 available for 1,000 Coins. Beyond just sharing the probability earn rates, Respawn has also confirmed that Apex Packs are duplicate and bad luck protected.
This means that players cannot earn items in Apex Packs if they have already unlocked those items. These packs also are bad luck protected for Legendary Items; bad luck protection entails that players cannot open more than 30 Apex Packs without receiving a Legendary Item.

With this kind of transparency, Respawn is currently on the right track with their cosmetic system. Alongside a featured store, similar to that of Fortnite and Blackout, Apex Legends offers a variety of different ways to earn new content types for all players.
